Description
1952 Chevy 5 Window 3100 Pickup with New Engine and 3 Speed Overdrive Transmission
Blue Flame Short Block / 3 Speed Overdrive Transmission / GM Rear End . . . all for $8800 OBO
This 1952 five window deluxe pickup truck is a great original “Barn Find” from North East Colorado that I purchased from the original owner. It has minimal rust in the lower inner front fenders and a little surface rust on the cab floor. No other rust or damage in cab corner, bed or fenders. Needs new bed wood and a new tailgate. Otherwise the body and frame are straight & in good condition w/ no damage or rust.
It has an older rebuilt 1954 235 (not running) and the electrical has also been upgraded to 12 volt. The only other modifications are small holes cut into dash for a modern radio. It is a 3 speed column shift with heater and dealer added spot light. Original color was Forest Green. It has original under-mount spare tire. I also have the original bottle jack and its extension. The four original wheels were replaced with chrome spokes at some point.
Besides this excellent original truck, the following items are included:
1) 235 Blue Flame Short Block built by Tom Langdon of Stovebolt Engine Company. Tom Langdon is a legend in the Stovebolt community from his many years as a GM engineer. The block is a 1954 with Langdon’s “Corvette Build” including custom ground crank and cam shafts, 40 over pistons, aluminum timing gear, stainless steel valve seats and asbestos rear main seal. It is primed and sitting on a wooden engine stand. Buyer will need to purchase the usual parts to complete. Original parts can be salvaged from the truck, or buy new “performance oriented” parts.
2) Rebuilt 3 speed transmission with Borg Warner Overdrive, also purchased from Tom Langdon. The transmission and OD unit are complete with new OD shifting solenoid. Buyer will need to purchase an OD electrical kick-down switch ($48 / mounts on carburetor), OD lock out cable and lever ($65 / mounts under dash) and OD electrical relay ($130 / mounts on firewall). All new parts are available from Fifth Avenue Internet Garage. I will include a BWOD Operating and Maintenance Manual on disc.
((Brief overview of OD Trans . . . OD’s gives the vehicle six speeds (1 / 1-OD / 2 / 2-OD / 3 / 3-OD, but most drivers will only use OD in 2nd and 3rd), The OD lowers engine RPM’s and allows it to cruse comfortably at modern highway speeds. It can also be locked out of OD for going up and down hills under full compression. The website Fordification.com has a very good Tech Article fully explaining OD trans called The Borg Warner Overdrive Transmission Explained.))
3) Rebuilt 1984 Blazer Rear End with completed conversion to fit the 1952 3100 truck. Includes 1952 parts such as perch mounts, wheel backing plates, wheel cylinders, brake shoes, and a new end yolk and yolk seal. This is a complete rear end that will accept the original brake lines and emergency brake connections off of the 1952 truck to be fully operational. To finish the transition using the OD transmission this type of rear end is needed. The buyer will need to purchase a new open drive shaft to replace the original 1952 enclosed drive shaft.
4) Miscellaneous:
a) 1952 Shop Manual, Factory Assembly Manual, Inline Six Cylinder Speed Manual, How to Hop Up Your Chevy/GMC Engine and How to Restore Your Chevy Truck come with purchase.
b) Harbor Freight 2 ton engine hoist, new Eastwood Blast Cabinet (in original box) available for purchase cheap.
